Social networks are places where you can communicate with your friends, and also find a job. Many counsels are available on the internet concernig job search and social networks. Some are very careful, sharing nothing about their personnal informations with other users. Blogs are also used to find a job. Sometimes, entreprises go to thoses sites, especially Facebook, when they are looking for employees, and so it is better for job searchers to have a profile. It is not a new phenomenon in the U.S.A. The New York Times wrote an interessant article, narrating how companies check candidates on Facebook.

The french strike strikes back

In France, It is a strike period. It means that it is very difficult to move, using the public transports. Railroaders want to defend their advantages, such advantages concerning retirement and so many others. But this is not the question. The question is “what are the implications?”. There are many ones. First, many people can’t go to work just as it is impossible because of the strike. Many of these people are compelling to take hollidays, and so they won’t have hollidays for X-Mas (children will feel alone). But, some implications are heavyest. Many workers are not so rich, and they couldn’t work for a few days, this means that they didn’t receive their entire income, and it can be a real problem when you have a family to feed. For people working with computer, it’s not so a hard problem, because they can work from home, but can not attend clients. Some people will say : because of the Internet, people dont’ care about the strike, it disrupts the social fabric, but I think it’s not true. Internet just allows people to accomplish some tasks that they usually perform in their office. It’s just a way to work even if strikers want us to stop working.

Everybody wants to know how Internet will become. Many people are talking about a new hierarchy, with more equality than ever. But, I think, that the real evolution will be the improvement of the quality of the contents. First technically, because the memory becomes cheaper everyday, so we will not have to compress as before. And, the quality of the contents will improve also because, with so many contents on the Internet, only the best will be watched by users.

How can it be possible?

Last week, we were talking about the Finnish drama ok the Jokela High School. This slaughter leads me to ask a question : how is it possible to avoid such terrible things? An internet policy or a citizen’s action?

I think you know Facebook, especially if you red my blog. I was making researches and I found something interesting : Hatebook The slogan is “everybody loves to hate”. Hatebook defines itself as “an anti-social utility that disconnects you to things you hate”.

Inernet, a world full of hate? a place for threats?

Recently, a 18 years old student from Finland shot to death 9 people and injured more than twelve people in his college with a 22.Long Riffle, a bloody slaughter. Before doing that, he posted videos on Youtube. In this video he wears a t-shirt with the inscription “humanity is overated” and he explains what he’is going to do. He says many strange things, he talks about natural selection and others weird subjects. It asks a question : is it possible to avoid such slaugther if there is control, people watching video woking for the police? Internet is a place where everybody communicate, even murderers. Many people make strange video in which they are hatefull, but it doesn’t mean that they’re going to kill people. Police patrol on the Internet will have serious problems to stop such crazy people. Internet has become for these kind of people a way to express themselves. If this kid couldn’t post videos, he probably did not killed so many people. Posting this video gave him the illusion to be important, to have auditors, to be heard when he tells about natural selection and others bad things. He was full of hate against the humanity, and with Internet he found a relay to express it. It is impossible to avoid people to be really stupid, but we can minimize the effects. I think that a man showing a gun in a video must be taken seriously, it’s not a game. I think that if just one person looked at the video before the slaughter, he must have called the police.

We already talked about Facebook and Myspace, sorry but i’m going to do it one more time. Creators of these sites are not very old. For example Mark Zuckerberg, the creator of facebook was born in 1984. Recently, Microsoft paied 240 Millions of dollars to have 1.6% of Facebook. Facebook is a social phenomenon and now an economical too. Success stories are part of the “internet dream”. First, Michale Dell, the founding father of Dell knew such a success story. Nowadays, Youtube, Myspace, and other website are buyed by big firms such as google or Microsft. News Corp (whose president is Ruppert Murdoch) spends $ 580 millions to have this site. Now the audience become bigger and bigger, it was not wasted money.

The research about the first nerwork corresponding to the today internet, ARPANET, began on 1962. The research was led byt the United States departement of Defense. In the year 1971, 23 computer are connected to this network. Then this network included some universities.In 1979, newsgroup appears and in 1982, the TCIP protocol was defined. Those two events depict, I think, the birth of the internet as we know it today. The ARPANET dissapear in the early 90′s, and a the same time the World Wide Web, today’s web began to be operational.

Google : Who are you? the devil or an angel?

Google has become so important that it as becom a verb : to google. But, this important in today’s world is a good thing? You can find informations about people thanks to google. For professionnal relations, it must be interessant, but for privacy informations, it is different. If you really don’t want to appear in the search result when somebody “google” your name, it is possible, but it also means that you’re not present on the web. Google has become incontrovertible. Today google is not only a search engine, google ad everyday new applications, such as google agenda, google doc, google map, etc. These new tools are very useful, so that we can ask the question : quickly google will be able to substitute many on and off-line applications. Goog thing or bad phenomenon? I don’t think it’s good or bad, but it’s surely very important.
